Trayvon Martin's Stepmother Speaks Out on the Dr. Phil Show

Yesterday I watched an episode of the Dr. Phil Show which featured Alicia Martin, stepmother of Trayvon Martin, along with best friends of George Zimmerman - the man charged in Trayvon's death.

What really caught my attention was the way in which Zimmerman's friends tried to portray him as this upstanding guy who was not the aggressor, but a man who feared for his life at the hands of young, innocent Trayvon. To me it just seemed like such BS. I was saddened by the fact that Trayvon's stepmom, Alicia Martin had to sit through all of this talk. She had her turn to speak and it brought me to tears as she poured her heart out about the young man who she helped raise when his parents divorced. She was a part of his life for many years and he was a part of her family. For the last five years, Trayvon stayed at Alicia and his father's home during summers, and numerous holidays. She was helping her mate, who is Trayvon's father, and Trayvon was close to her children as well. At one point she stated, “I didn’t give birth to him but he was my son, to know that he died the way that he died, he shouldn’t have never died like that.”

Why I wanted to share about Trayvon's stepmother and what happened on the Dr. Phil show here on Baby Momma Love, because here we discuss raising children from past mates, being in a relationship or married to someone with children - and our influence in these children's lives.

I want to remind all women who are biological mothers or a mother because you are helping to raise your mate's child(ren) that you are a big part of that child's life, and if something tragic should happen that you are just as much affected as the actual parents. I couldn't imagine my stepchild being with me or staying with me and a tragedy like the Trayvon Martin case happens. Life is short, we never know what could happen - take the time to tell your child(ren) you love them everyday, and if you are a stepparent do everything in your power to nurture the relationship with your stepchild(ren). I could see it in Alicia's eyes, she loved Trayvon, and I am sure she treated him as if he was her very own.

I salute Alicia Martin for her strength, and dedication to making sure that justice is served in the death of her stepson. Thank you for being a great example of a stepmother, and for the love you have provided to Trayvon over the years.

God Bless You!

Peace and Always Love,

  1. Now it makes perfect sense...His mother didn't have time for him his father has this woman but takes trayvon to another womans home who could care less what he did...he was expelled 3 times for drugs....had jewelry in his backpack along with a screw driver and refused to say who it belonged to ...but his parents collected 1 million dollars from a complex and his parents are rewarded for not parenting and raising a troubled teen at the best...had they been the parents that Trayvon deserved he would still be alive.......loosers.....

  2. It is obvious that the one who can't spell is you..lol. The above person has a right to reflect their opinion even if it isn't based on facts. The real point here is another one of our black youth has been violently taken away by a man who took the law into his own hands. Trayvon was not the attacker, he was defending himself against a creep who was following him for no apparent reason (if you look at it from his perspective).

  4. I think a reasonably intelligent person would agree that there is a distinct difference between a spelling error and a typo. Hitting the wrong key and typing "hus" instead of "his" is a typo. However, using "their" to refer to a single person is a syntax error, which demonstrates an educational deficiency. You need to tighten up on your grammar, Black Man, before you correct anyone else. Lol at that.

  5. My Opinion: A child has been taken from us. Who knows what achievements were in store for this young man. We will never know because the State of Florida has given the"right" to kill to those who feel that they are in jeopardy. As a native born Floridian I can speak to the disparity of justice handed out in this State. George Zimmerman will be found not guilty of murder because the prosecution has to prove beyond a "reasonable" doubt that Mr. Zimmerman could have avoided the situation therefore no self defense plea would stand up. Mr. Zimmerman lynched Trayvon Martin..plain and simple. He saw a young black man with a hoodie in a place that Mr. Zimmerman felt Trayvon should not have been; so Zimmerman pursued him. Any person that notices someone following them will be concerned. Trayvon was concerned enough to relay this information to friend he was speaking to by phone. It should not matter why Trayvon was suspended from school; it should not matter what the young lady on the witness level of sophistication is being viewed; what matters is that George Zimmerman stalked Trayvon, confronted him and then proceeded to get his butt kicked by a frightened young man; when Zimmerman realized that he was not the better man, he shot the young man and killed him. The fact is: George Zimmerman knew that he had a gun and could protect himself; Trayvon only had a bag of skittles and an Arizona Ice Tea; and yes of course: Black Skin.

    1. The man with the gun was not the one screaming.

  6. Why would someone with a gun cry out for help when the other person is not armed. In this country you cannot go around starting fights and kill an innocent person because you are losing the fight you started.

  7. If we follow the accounts of the events of that night sequencially including during the phone calls we see that there is no question that Zimmerman was the instigator. Even if Trayvon was a wrongdoer he did have a right to life.

I applaud Alicia Martin but I don't have that parenting facts straight from any of the parents involved.
